S.M.I.L.E – The Sellwood Moreland Improvement League and Oaks Pioneer Chapel.

Oaks Pioneer Church Oaks Pioneer Church is a beloved neighborhood landmark that SMILE has lovingly maintained for decades with help from dedicated volunteers and local vendors. The vintage chapel, which is owned by the City of Portland but operated by SMILE, is rented primarily for weddings, but is also used for memorials, concerts and photo shoots. SMILE is responsible for the maintenance and care of both the building and the grounds. Any net rental proceeds are used to support a variety of community activities, events, and committees.

When you make a reservation here at OPC, those funds go directly towards the care and maintenance of the building and operational and administrative costs. Any remaining profits go to support local community events including, The Annual Egg Hunt, Holiday Tree Lighting, Neighborhood Cleanup, Summerville, Sundae In the Park,  various SMILE committees including  stewardship at Oaks Bottom Nature Preserve, Oaks Bottom Overlook and Springwater Meadows, along with Emergency Preparedness, Community Safety, and Housing Solutions Committees and others.

SMILE is an ALL VOLUNTEER board with a small handful of paid part-time employees who see to the daily operations of OPC and the SMILE Station. Keeping OPC also relies heavily on the kindness and dedication of countless volunteers throughout or community.

This means, your money doesn’t just go towards making sure you have a beautiful place for your special day, it goes towards making our community beautiful too. On behalf of SMILE, THANK YOU!
